Workshops

Rumba Orisha offer a variety of workshops tailored to fit different groups, ages, and class sizes. Director Crispin Robinson has written articles on Cuban music for Classroom Music magazine (a nationally-available resource for music teachers) providing exercises aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils. He has also worked with primary children of all ages using storytelling and music workshops and performance.

Primary
We can custom-design workshops, presentations and projects for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We take a cross-curricular approach using a variety of interactive materials such as drumming, singing, circle games and storytelling. Elements of history, geography, music, literacy, ICT, RE, and art and design are all included in a fun and accessible package. The mythical dimensions of Orisha stories are rich in archetypes and images that fuel the imaginations of young minds.

Secondary
We can offer projects and workshops for Key stages 3 and 4 that go deeper into the historical background and formal structures of Afrocuban music. Cross-curricular possibilities for using the material we provide include music, geography, history (especially Black history), art, drama, dance, ICT, and RE. Our experience is that this is wonderful material for engaging teenagers from all backgrounds.
